Maintenance

  • Is your vessel running as it should?

Preventive maintenance keeps your vessel in good technical condition, reliable and safe. During maintenance, we inspect the vessel and readjust or replace machines, equipment and other components. This allows us to help you avoid unexpected downtime and expensive repairs as much as possible.

    At your premises
Of course, you want your vessel to be operational again as quickly as possible. That is why we carry out maintenance on your site or at the shipyard of your choice. Our project managers prepare for the work thoroughly and ensure that all of the parts and components are available. They also make sure that the right engineers can start work for you immediately. We have good relationships with our suppliers, which considerably reduces delivery times. Our efficient working method means that your crew can be sailing again quickly and safely.

    Verhauling in practice
We overhauled the engines and thrusters of three vessels belonging to a Kenyan customer, which came into the dock one by one.
As is customary within the Damen Shipyards Group, preparation was organised meticulously, all the parts and components we needed were available and our engineers knew exactly what was expected of them: inspect, replace or readjust securely but quickly. After an average of three weeks, each vessel was fixed and ready to go!

  • Multi skilled Damen engineers share their knowledge

In 2004 our organisation Kenya Ports Authority procured three 3110s Azimuth Drives (ASD) harbour tugs from Damen Shipyards. The tugs are classified by Lloyds Register and undergo their mandatory surveys accordingly. The Special Surveys were conducted in 2015 and Damen was contracted to overhaul the six Cat 3516s main engines and six US 205 Rolls Royce Aquamaster propulsion units in accordance with the CSM requirements. During the scope of work, the Damen engineers working on site were very capable, exhibiting professionalism, multi skills and dedication to the target date of completing the tasks. We also appreciate their transfer of knowledge to our technical team, attached during the duration of the overhauls, which motivated the team in turn. Where there were issues or factors affecting the project outside our jurisdiction, the head office in Gorinchem efficiently researched and resolved the matter. On completion of each overhaul, the detailed reports were duly submitted to us in good time, to furnish the Lloyds Surveyor.

We thank Damen Shipyards for their thorough efficiency during the surveys and look forward to a continued partnership well into the future.’
